adapters for artillery shells.

This aluminium adapter was used in place of the original fuze on a shell, to place it like a mine and/or boobytrap.
The centre of the adapter was threaded to recieve the standard fuze nipple.
Shown here with a
ZZ42, about every German (trap) fuze would fit.

This type has threads that will fit the 8,8cm and 10,5cm shells.
More types like these, differently threaded, exist.

Shell with ZZ35, found in Holland.

The photos below show a funny variation on improvised mines.
The shell is a French HE trench mortar Model1917.
Instead of the normal fuze, an adapter is screwed in the gaine and a pullfuze
ZZ-35 is fitted.

recovered 06-2008 during uxo-clearance in Holland.

Shell with ZZ35, found in Holland.

Shown on the right and below, a German 7.5cm High Explosive shell, missing its drivingband.
Instead of the normal artillery-fuze, a
ZZ-35 fuze is set in its cavity, fixed in place with plaster/cement.
This cement was protected on the top with some asphalt-like substance.

recovered 04-2009
